It is with great sadness that we report the death of our former Trustee and Chairman, Roger Brown OBE, on 18th August 2026 in London, aged 89. We understand that he had been suffering badly from the recent extreme hot weather.
Following his retirement from the diplomatic service, Roger worked for the Leonard Cheshire organisation, overseeing their activities in Latin America. It was whilst visiting Peru in that capacity that he came to know La Sendita, Anita Goulden’s home and school for abandoned and disabled children and young people.
He was invited to become a Trustee of the Anita Goulden Trust, and he assumed the Chairmanship in 1999. He held that role until 2016. Over that time, he made several visits to the Home.
Roger’s leadership was fundamental in dealing with the difficult aftermath of Anita Goulden’s death in 2002. Mismanagement of the Home and lack of financial accountability under Anita’s former assistant, obliged him to act. Roger and the Trust collaborated with a local committee to open a new home for the La Sendita children. This became the Anita Goulden Home that we know today.
In this and in all situations, Roger gave outstanding service to the Trust and the Home and he is greatly missed.
