We are very sad to report the passing of Sally Morgan, who was an Anita Goulden Trustee for nearly 20 years until her resignation last year. She had made extended visits to Anita Goulden in Piura and her first-hand knowledge was invaluable to the Trust.

Friday, 13th of September was the 14th anniversary of the opening of the Anita Goulden Home, which replaced “la Sendita”, the home where Anita Goulden had lived and cared for “her” children. The occasion was marked by a concert at the Home by the Symphony orchestra of the “Omapec” organisation, activities for the children, run by volunteers and by the workers of the Home, and performances by the children themselves. The event was also attended by some of the 20 or so members of the charitable association that runs the Home.

The Home has recently been encouraging still more involvement of families with the young residents. They are asking parents or close family members to take the children out for weekends, fostering greater engagement with the children, who know they have family that cares for them. Reducing the numbers resident at the weekend also helps to keep the Home’s costs down. Six of the eighteen residents have no known family and they do remain in the Home over weekends. Parents, whenever possible, also attend medical appointments with the children, again reinforcing their involvement.

We are sorry to hear that Amabilia Arellano, the Treasurer of the local Association in Piura, is not well, and is not coming to work. The chair of the local Association is managing the finances of the Home during her absence.
